The San Mateo County Parks system is proud to be an underwriter of the OpenRoad TV series which began its second season on local NBC channels.  OpenRoad with Doug McConnell takes viewers on journeys to explore the natural, historical and cultural treasures of the Bay Area and Northern California focusing principally in parks and open spaces protected by the public and made accessible to all people for all time.

The series opener includes a visit to Devil’s Slide Trail, a San Mateo County Park and part of the California Coastal Trail System.  The show will feature Parks Director Marlene Finley and Devil’s Slide Trail Ambassador volunteers. Along the trail, Doug also interviews Zoe Kersteen-Tucker, a Tunnelista who along with others, led the effort to build the Tom Lantos Tunnels, thereby diverting automobile traffic from the very famous road that is now a hiking and biking trail.

The public may take their vehicles to the north or south end of the trail. Parking is limited with the north end hold no more than 20 spaces and the south end no more than 25 spaces. Pacifica offer a free weekend shuttle, The Devil's Slide Ride. The shuttle runs from 8am to 5pm beginning at Linda Mar Park and Ride parking lot, heads north halfway through town, then begins its return with its last stop at the trail. If you don't want the long shuttle ride, you may jump on it at Linda Mar State Beach in the north end of the parking lot (near the restrooms), and take it directly to the trail head. The shuttle circles every hour, but keep in mind the driver takes breaks and a lunch. Visit the City of Pacifica's website for the shuttle schedule. More shuttle info available on our website, click here
